Birkenstock resoling by mail

Birkenstocks are among the most repairable sandals you can buy. A worn sole, a crumbling cork edge and even a worn-out footbed can all be replaced. North American owners can't send them back to Birkenstock, though, so the work goes to independent shops. Here's what's available by mail, using the prices the shops published when we checked on 26 October 2026.

Why you can't just send them to Birkenstock

Birkenstock's own FAQ (on its European site) says its repair workshops are in Germany, and that it only offers its repair service to customers in Europe, excluding the UK, Switzerland and Norway because of customs restrictions. The same FAQ says Birkenstock can't repair EVA sandals, Papillio models or shoes (source). That exclusion covers Birkenstock's own service. An independent shop may still be able to help with other footwear, but the cork-footbed sandals are what the resole packages below are built for.

Soles only, or a new footbed too?

Other details from those pages:

Genuine parts or "compatible" parts?

Ask the shop which parts it uses, because practice varies:

If you want a particular sole, such as a grippier or thicker one, ask before you order. Package prices usually assume the shop's standard sole.

These directory shops also mention Birkenstock work on their sites. Ask them for a quote, since they don't publish Birkenstock package prices that we could find:

Sending them in

  1. Contact the shop first if it asks you to. Village Cobblery asks you to call or email before shipping. It then confirms the job and total and gives you the mailing address. Fred's sells the repair online and you ship to its Peoria address.
  2. Pack them in a box with a note. Village Cobblery's shipping guide suggests wrapping each sandal separately, avoiding plastic bags (they trap moisture), and including your name, return address, phone or email and the repair you want.
  3. Track and insure. Village Cobblery recommends insuring the outgoing parcel for its replacement value. USPS says Priority Mail includes up to $100 of insurance, and more coverage can be bought.
